10 Useful expressions

Hello, everyone!

1. Big deal! – Grande coisa! EXEMPLO: Ok…the play had a bad review on the paper…big deal!! (Tá… A peça teve uma crítica ruim no jornal… Grande coisa!!)

2. It’s no big deal! / No big deal – Não foi nada! EXEMPLO: -Thank you so much for helping me cross the street! -Oh, it’s no big deal. (Muito obrigada por ter me ajudado a atravessar a rua. -Ah, não foi nada!

3. Who cares? – Quem se importa? EXEMPLO: She was telling me that her mom has won a big prize or something…who cares? (Ela estava me dizendo que a mãe dela ganhou um grande prêmio ou coisa parecida… Quem se importa?)

4. Bummer! – Que pena! EXEMPLO: -My mom said I can’t go to your party on Friday… -Really? Oh, bummer! (A minha mãe disse que eu não posso ir à sua festa na sexta… -Mesmo? Ah, que pena!)

5. Piece of cake – fácil EXEMPLO: Grandma, I’ll teach you. Sending an e-mail is a piece of cake! (Vovó, eu vou te ensinar. Mandar um e-mail é fácil!)

6. Sit tight! – Espere aí! (pacientemente) EXEMPLO: I’m going to show you my mom’s wedding dress. I just have to find it first. Sit tight! (Eu vou mostrar a você o vestido de casamento da minha mãe. Eu só tenho que encontrá-lo. Espere aí!

7. up in the air – para ser decidido EXEMPLO: The place for the meeting is still up in the air. (O lugar da reunião ainda está para ser decidido).

8. Chill out! – Calma! (Use quando a pessoa estiver bastante nervosa) EXEMPLO: -Man, where is my wallet? I left it right here!!! Oh, no…what am I gonna do?? -Chill out! We’ll find it. (Cara, cadê a minha carteira? Eu a deixei bem aqui!!! Ah, não…o que é que eu fazer?? -Calma! Nós vamos achá-la.)

9. To touch base – falar-se / entrar em contato EXEMPLO: Alright, honey. Nice talking to you. We’ll touch base tomorrow after work to plan something for the weekend. (Ok, querida. Bom falar com você. A gente se fala amanhã depois do trabalho para planejar algo para o fim de semana.)

10. Hang in there! – Segure firme! / Força! EXEMPLO: I know you’re going through a tough time, but hang in there. Things will get better, ok? (Eu sei que você está passando por um período difícil, mas segure firme. As coisas vão melhorar, tá?)
