Basic of English Grammar – Beginner

Action verbs express action and are the most common verbs. Action verbs need s at the end with third-person, singular subjects.

  1. He eats bread.

  2. She walks to the station.

  3. It floats on the sea.

Negative sentences need do not, does not, or did not.

  1. I do not eat bread.

  2. He does not eat bread.

  3. You did not walk to the station.

  4. It does not float on the sea.

Interrogative sentences begin with do, does, or did.

  1. Do you eat bread?

  2. Does he eat bread?

  3. Does she walk to the station?

  4. Did they finish it?

Do not can be shortened to don’t, does not to doesn’t, and did not to didn’t.

  1. I don’t eat bread.

  2. She doesn’t walk to the station.

  3. It doesn’t float on the sea.

  4. They didn’t finish it.
